They call it “the incident” now, a moment that has taken on a life of its own over time. Arthur still insists it was all part of his grand romantic plan. Jane is not so convinced. As with many long relationships, the truth sits somewhere in between.
In Other Words invites audiences to the very beginning of Arthur and Jane’s story. It explores how they met, fell in love, and built a life together. Woven together with the timeless music of Frank Sinatra, this heartfelt and often humorous play captures the small, familiar moments that shape a shared life.
As the years pass, their journey takes an unexpected turn with the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. With warmth, sensitivity and gentle humour, the play explores the realities of memory loss and the powerful role music can play in reconnecting us to our past. It is a moving reminder of the strength of love, even in the face of life’s most difficult challenges.
Coming to Koorliny Arts Centre this May, In Other Words stars Grant Malcolm and Natalie Burbage, directed by Geoffrey Leeder. In partnership with Forget-Me-Not Memory Café, information will be available at every performance for those affected by dementia.
