A Choir Extravaganza for International Women’s Day

Women’s lives, despite over 150 years of feminist action, remain unequal under patriarchy. In popular music charts, women represent only 35% of performing artists, 19.5% of songwriters, and 6.5% of producers.* While gains are being made in all of these areas, women must continually battle to make their voices heard.

This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating and amplifying women’s artistic expression in a mega mixed bill choir extravaganza at The Rosemount. Join Hengequeens and some of our favourite choirs - Menagerie, Peppermint, Perth Harmony Chorus, She Shants and Voicemale -  for an afternoon of songs by, for and about women.

CHOIR BIOS

Hengequeens is a feminist choir for people marginalised by the patriarchy. They sing songs by, for and about women and non-binary people, in bespoke 3-6 part arrangements. A pox on setlists full of white dudes!

Menagerie is an award-winning indie pop choir of around 100 music lovers. They sing their own quirky arrangements of songs from a diverse set of indie artists. 

Peppermint is a fresh cool choir, with many songs to delight and inspire. Peppermint sings in SATB, sometimes with six or more harmonies. The Peppermint repertoire has great variation, with songs from all genres, eras and nations!

Perth Harmony Chorus are an engaging, award-winning show chorus who love to perform a variety of a cappella music, including the artform of barbershop harmonies, pop across decades of classic hits and musical theatre favourites.

She Shants is a 9-strong group of women flying the flag for a feminine perspective upon the vast seas of male shanty singing. They draw repertoire from traditional and original songs of waiting, loss, adventure and a fascination of sea creatures.

Voicemale is a men’s community choir based in Fremantle, Western Australia. Voicemale’s repertoire ranges far and wide and includes songs from the world’s folk traditions, modern and popular music, as well as original songs.

All U18s must be accompanied by a parent or their legal guardian
