Superannuation Masterclass for the Live Music Industry
Presented by Sorrento Strategic Accounting & Hot Giggity
Thursday 13 August 2026, 3:00pm - 5:00pm - Clancy's Fish Pub, 51 Cantonment Street, Fremantle WA 6160
Super is now part of doing business in live music, and almost nobody in the industry is completely sure where they stand. Venues are not sure when they owe it. Band leaders are not sure what they owe the players they pay. Agents and promoters are stuck in the middle. Musicians just want to know if anything is going into their fund at all.
This two-hour masterclass clears it up. Kylie Thompson from Sorrento Strategic Accounting (also Treasurer of the ALMBC) and Ned Walker, Founder of Hot Giggity, walk through the rules in plain English and show you what good practice actually looks like day-to-day.
What we will cover
- When super is payable on live music work, and when it is not
- Employee vs contractor vs ABN, and where the industry commonly gets it wrong
- What venues and promoters need to have in place
- What band leaders owe the players they pay, and how to handle it without drowning in admin
- Record keeping, and an audit trail that stands up at tax time
- Practical tools that automate the whole process
Come with your questions. There is plenty of time for Q&A, and both presenters talk straight, not in 'accountant'.
Who it is for: musicians, band leaders, venue owners and managers, bookers, agents, promoters and anyone paying or being paid for live music.
Tickets $10. Doors 3pm, finish 5pm.
Please note: this session is general information only and is not personal financial or tax advice.
