GOLDENEYE (M) Presented in 35mm Film
GoldenEye at The Revival House Perth
Pierce Brosnan explodes onto the screen in his debut as James Bond, revitalizing the franchise for a new generation while honoring everything that made 007 a cultural icon. When a powerful satellite weapon falls into the hands of a rogue Russian general and his enigmatic accomplice (played with scene-stealing relish by Famke Janssen), Bond must confront ghosts from his past—including former MI6 agent Alec Trevelyan (Sean Bean), now the deadly terrorist Janus. From bungee jumping off a dam in the opening sequence to a tank chase through the streets of St. Petersburg, GoldenEye delivers spectacular action set pieces that redefined what Bond films could achieve in the post-Cold War era.
Director Martin Campbell brings kinetic energy to every frame, while Brosnan strikes the perfect balance between Roger Moore's charm and Timothy Dalton's intensity. Izabella Scorupco makes for a formidable ally as programmer Natalya Simonova, while Judi Dench's debut as M signals a new era for the series. Eric Serra's electronic score and Tina Turner's thunderous theme song capture the film's modern edge, yet this remains unmistakably Bond—complete with gadgets from a gleefully eccentric Q (Desmond Llewelyn) and the series' trademark wit.
