ALIENS (M) presented in 35mm
Aliens at The Revival House Perth
Fifty-seven years after surviving the Nostromo's destruction and her terrifying encounter with a xenomorph, Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) awakens from hypersleep to discover that the planet where her crew found the alien eggs has been colonized. When contact with the colony is lost, Ripley reluctantly joins a squad of overconfident Colonial Marines led by Lieutenant Gorman (William Hope) to investigate. Arriving at the terraforming facility, they find it devastated and deserted except for one survivor: a traumatized little girl named Newt (Carrie Henn). The rescue mission becomes a desperate fight for survival when the Marines discover the colonists have been used as hosts for an army of xenomorphs. As the creatures systematically slaughter the squad, Ripley must protect Newt while facing the aliens' horrifying queen in a battle that transforms her from traumatized survivor into fierce warrior.
Director James Cameron takes Ridley Scott's horror framework and transforms it into an action-packed war film without losing the terror. The 1986 sequel is a masterclass in escalating tension—the first alien attack in the atmosphere processor remains one of cinema's most intense sequences. Sigourney Weaver earned a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her iconic performance, creating one of action cinema's greatest heroes. The supporting cast, including Bill Paxton's panicking Hudson and Michael Biehn's dependable Hicks, brings personality to the Marines. Stan Winston's creature effects and the power loader finale showcase practical filmmaking at its finest. James Horner's propulsive score drives the relentless action. Cameron balances spectacular set pieces with genuine emotional stakes through Ripley's maternal bond with Newt. It's a rare sequel that equals—some say surpasses—its predecessor.
