Former top Navy pilot Topper Harley (Charlie Sheen) is recruited for a crucial mission despite his troubled past—his father's shadow looms large, having accidentally shot down his wingman years ago. Admiral "Tug" Benson (Lloyd Bridges), a walking collection of war injuries, assembles a crack squadron including the overconfident Kent Gregory (Cary Elwes) and assigns psychiatrist Ramada Thompson (Valeria Golino) to evaluate Topper's fitness for duty. As Topper falls for Ramada—who happens to be engaged to Kent—he must overcome his demons to lead a dangerous mission to destroy Saddam Hussein's nuclear facilities. The squadron faces incompetent superiors, absurd obstacles, and the weight of their own ridiculous melodrama in this all-out assault on Top Gun and every military aviation film ever made.

Directors Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker (the Airplane! team minus Jerry) deliver another rapid-fire parody that spoofs Top Gun with machine-gun precision. The 1991 film throws jokes at the screen relentlessly—sight gags in the background, verbal puns, slapstick, and fourth-wall breaks pile up faster than audiences can catch them. Charlie Sheen plays it completely straight, which makes the absurdity funnier, while Lloyd Bridges steals scenes as the admiral who's more prosthetics than man. The film lovingly recreates Top Gun's iconic imagery before demolishing it—the volleyball scene becomes a send-up, the romantic encounters turn ridiculous, and the aerial combat sequences balance genuine excitement with comedy. Sylvester Levay's score parodies the bombastic military film music perfectly. It's stupid, relentless, and genuinely hilarious—proving the ZAZ team's comedy formula works on any genre.
