The Fifth Element at The Revival House Perth

In the 23rd century, ex-special forces operative turned flying cab driver Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis) finds his mundane existence shattered when a mysterious woman named Leeloo (Milla Jovovich) literally crashes through his taxi's roof. Leeloo is the Fifth Element—a supreme being engineered from ancient DNA to save humanity from an approaching planetary evil that threatens all life. With only five days before a massive ball of pure darkness collides with Earth, Korben must protect Leeloo while she searches for four elemental stones representing earth, fire, water, and air. Pursued by the Mangalore aliens working for the sinister Zorg (Gary Oldman) and aided by flamboyant talk show host Ruby Rhod (Chris Tucker), Korben and Leeloo race to the vacation planet Fhloston Paradise. There, opera-singing alien diva Plavalaguna holds the stones—but retrieving them means surviving a spectacular firefight, one unforgettable aria, and the weight of humanity's survival.

Director Luc Besson creates a wildly imaginative, utterly unique science fiction spectacle that remains visually stunning decades later. The 1997 film's production design by Dan Weil and costumes by Jean-Paul Gaultier create a future that's colorful, chaotic, and unlike anything else—flying cars stacked vertically, McDonald's in space, and Ruby Rhod's outrageous leopard print outfits. Willis anchors the lunacy with weary everyman charm, while Jovovich creates an alien character through movement and her invented Divine Language. Oldman's zany villain and Tucker's manic energy push the film into gleeful camp territory. The Diva Dance sequence—blending opera with laser-gun action—showcases Besson's audacious vision. Éric Serra's electronic score pulses with energy. It's science fiction as pure pop art, prioritizing spectacle and joy over logic.
