Night at the Museum at The Revival House Perth

Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) is a divorced dreamer whose inability to hold down a job has cost him the respect of his young son Nick. Desperate to prove himself, Larry accepts a position as night security guard at New York's Museum of Natural History, despite warnings from the three retiring guards that "some nights can get a little rough." On his first shift, Larry discovers why: an ancient Egyptian tablet brings the entire museum to life after sunset. Suddenly he's managing chaos as Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams) charges off on his horse, a mischievous Capuchin monkey steals his keys, miniature Roman legions battle miniature cowboys, and a T-Rex skeleton wants to play fetch. Larry must learn to control the nightly pandemonium while uncovering why the previous guards are so interested in the Egyptian artifact—and prove to his son that he can finally succeed at something.

Director Shawn Levy delivers family entertainment that balances slapstick comedy with genuine heart and spectacular visual effects. The 2006 film's genius lies in bringing museum exhibits to life with distinct personalities—Williams brings warmth to the wax Roosevelt, Owen Wilson and Steve Coogan provide comic bickering as miniature cowboy Jedediah and Roman Octavius, while Dick Van Dyke leads the aging guard trio. The production design transforms the actual Museum of Natural History into a magical playground, while the visual effects make dinosaur skeletons, charging elephants, and tiny dioramas convincingly interact with Stiller. Ben Stiller grounds the chaos with his everyman exasperation evolving into competent leadership. Alan Silvestri's adventurous score captures the wonder and excitement. It's a clever premise executed with charm, delivering both spectacle and a sweet father-son story about finding your place.
