Man of Steel (M, 2013) Presented in 35mm Film by The Revival House Perth

As the alien world of Krypton collapses, scientist Jor-El (Russell Crowe) sends his infant son to Earth, hoping to preserve his species' legacy. Raised as Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) by adoptive parents Jonathan and Martha Kent in rural Kansas, Clark grows up grappling with his extraordinary abilities and uncertain origins, drifting through life while concealing his powers from a world not yet ready to know him. When General Zod (Michael Shannon), a Kryptonian military commander bent on rebuilding his destroyed civilization at any cost, arrives on Earth demanding Clark's surrender, Clark must finally embrace his identity as Superman, choosing between his Kryptonian heritage and his allegiance to the humanity that raised him, in a battle that will determine Earth's very survival.

Director Zack Snyder delivers a darker, more grounded reimagining of Superman's origin, trading the character's traditionally optimistic tone for a brooding examination of identity, isolation, and the weight of godlike power. Henry Cavill brings physical intensity and genuine internal conflict to Clark's journey toward embracing his heroic destiny, while Michael Shannon's ferocious performance as Zod provides a formidable ideological counterpoint rooted in genuine conviction rather than simple villainy. Snyder's large-scale, destruction-heavy action sequences reimagine superhero spectacle with unprecedented scale and consequence, while Hans Zimmer's soaring score deliberately eschews John Williams's iconic theme in favour of an entirely new musical identity. The film's exploration of Superman as an outsider navigating questions of belonging and purpose offers a more psychologically complex take on one of popular culture's most enduring icons.
