Battleship (M, 2012) Presented in 35mm Film by The Revival House Perth

When a naval fleet encounters an alien armada near Hawaii, humanity's greatest military technology suddenly becomes obsolete. Lieutenant Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch), a talented but undisciplined naval officer, must lead a ragtag group of sailors in a desperate battle against extraterrestrial invaders wielding devastating weaponry and superior intelligence. With communication systems disabled and reinforcements unable to reach them, Hopper and his crew are left with one option: use the USS Missouri, a decommissioned battleship from World War II, to fight back against an enemy that has cut off Hawaii from the rest of the world. As the invaders systematically destroy modern naval vessels, Hopper realizes that old-fashioned naval tactics and the grit of determined sailors might be humanity's only hope.

Director Peter Berg brings explosive action and military spectacle to this 2012 adaptation of the classic board game. The film showcases Taylor Kitsch's everyman heroism as Hopper transforms from cocky troublemaker to effective military leader under pressure, while Liam Neeson brings authoritative menace to Admiral Shane, Hopper's commanding officer and the father of his love interest. The action sequences are massive in scale—alien ships engaging battleships, explosive exchanges of fire, and desperate hand-to-hand combat—all rendered with technical precision and kinetic energy. Berg emphasizes the clash between outdated naval technology and futuristic alien weaponry, celebrating human determination and improvisation against seemingly impossible odds. Steve Jablonsky's thunderous score drives the relentless action as the film celebrates military camaraderie and sacrifice.
