Eraser (MA 15+, 1996) 30th Anniversary Presented in 35mm Film by The Revival House Perth

U.S. Marshal John Kruger (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is a specialist in the Witness Security Program, responsible for protecting federal witnesses by erasing their identities and giving them new lives. Operating in the shadows, Kruger has perfected the art of disappearance, making people vanish so completely that their old lives cease to exist. When a defense contractor named Lee Cullen (Vanessa Williams) witnesses corporate corruption and arms trafficking, she becomes a target for powerful criminals and corrupt government officials who will stop at nothing to silence her. Kruger must protect Lee while investigating a conspiracy that reaches into the highest levels of the FBI itself. When he discovers that someone within the agency is hunting them both, Kruger realizes he can trust no one—not his colleagues, not his superiors, and not the system he's devoted his career to serving. He must go off the grid, using his erasure expertise to disappear entirely while taking down the conspiracy from the outside.

Director Chuck Russell delivers a high-octane action thriller that showcases Arnold Schwarzenegger at his peak charisma and physical presence. The 1996 film balances spectacular action sequences—from a shootout on an airplane to a climactic confrontation in a rail yard—with genuine suspense about institutional corruption and betrayal. Schwarzenegger brings unexpected warmth to Kruger, a man whose professional detachment masks genuine human compassion beneath his imposing exterior. Vanessa Williams makes Lee a capable partner rather than a damsel in distress, while James Caan and James Coburn add authority to the supporting cast. The film's exploration of identity—how easily a person can be erased and reinvented—adds thematic weight to the action spectacle. John Ottman's propulsive score and Chuck Russell's confident direction keep the film moving at relentless pace, delivering popcorn entertainment executed with technical skill and genuine excitement.
