Ben William - Imitate Album Launch
Clancy's Fish Pub | Fremantle (Fremantle, WA)

Perth singer-songwriter Ben William will celebrate the release of his newest album, Imitate, with a
special launch show accompanied by a full band at Clancy's Fish Pub, Fremantle, on Saturday,
18 July.
Blending soulful acoustic songwriting with the raw emotion of grunge and alternative rock, Imitate
is a deeply personal collection of songs exploring identity, mental health, love, loss and resilience.
Written during a difficult period in William's life, the album was inspired by the haunting sound of a
12-string acoustic guitar in open D tuning."I started writing Imitate in early 2024 during a very dark and overwhelming period of my life. The
songs became a way to process what I was going through, and making this album was incredibly
cathartic. Releasing something this vulnerable wasn't easy, but if these songs can help someone feel
less alone, it's worth it."
Across 13 tracks, Imitate blends influences from grunge, emo, folk and alternative rock into an
intimate acoustic sound. While every song offers its own unique sound, tracks such as Person,
Wax, Pulp and the title track showcase William's distinctive approach to songwriting and genre.
“This album showcases such a diverse cocktail of genres due to my eclectic influences. I was
worried that all these songs wouldn’t work together but I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
No two songs sound the same, yet they aren’t so different that it’s jarring to listen to from start to
finish.”
"Imitate is about being honest with yourself and others, even when it's uncomfortable. Realising the
world keeps turning regardless of what I do made it a little less scary to put myself out there."
The album launch will also feature Perth singer-songwriter Anna Dabbs and alternative R&B/
electronic neo-soul band Shadow Planet, celebrating the diversity and talent of Perth's original
music scene in an evening of live performances.
