Seven Nights of 007: A View to a Kill (M) PRESENTED IN 35MM FILM
Seven Nights of 007: A View to a Kill (M, 1985) at The Revival House Perth
When a microchip recovered from a deceased 00 agent proves impervious to electromagnetic pulses, James Bond (Roger Moore) investigates its manufacturer: Max Zorin (Christopher Walken), a wealthy industrialist who made his fortune in microelectronics. Zorin, a product of Nazi genetic experiments, plans to destroy California's Silicon Valley by triggering a massive earthquake along the San Andreas Fault, giving him a monopoly on microchip production. Bond infiltrates Zorin's operation, attending a horse auction at his French château and uncovering the villain's scheme with help from geologist Stacey Sutton (Tanya Roberts), whose family oil company Zorin stole. As Zorin's psychopathic bodyguard May Day (Grace Jones) executes his murderous plans, Bond must stop the detonation of explosives in a flooded mine shaft beneath the fault line—culminating in a confrontation atop the Golden Gate Bridge.
Director John Glen's fourth Bond film marks Roger Moore's seventh and final performance as 007 at age 57, bringing his era to a close with spectacular stunt work and exotic locations. The 1985 film opens with an exhilarating ski chase and Eiffel Tower parachute jump, while the Paris horse race and San Francisco fire truck chase deliver classic Bond action. Christopher Walken brings unsettling intensity to Zorin, making him genuinely unhinged rather than merely megalomaniacal, while Grace Jones creates an iconic henchwoman whose redemption arc adds unexpected depth. Duran Duran's title song became a chart-topping hit. While Moore's age sometimes shows and the plot echoes Goldfinger, the film delivers entertainment through sheer spectacle and Walken's memorable villainy.
