The Long Kiss Goodnight - Revival House Perth Event Bio

Geena Davis kicks serious ass in Shane Black's wildly entertaining 1996 action thriller—a film that asks "what if a suburban mom and schoolteacher was actually a lethal CIA assassin with amnesia?" and delivers two hours of explosive mayhem in response. This is Black at his most gleefully violent, mixing Christmas cheer with body counts.

Davis stars as Samantha Caine, a sweet small-town teacher suffering from amnesia who's spent eight years building a normal life with her daughter. When a car accident triggers fragmented memories, she hires seedy private detective Mitch Henessey (Samuel L. Jackson in peak motor-mouth form) to investigate her past. What they uncover is that Samantha was actually Charly Baltimore, one of the government's most dangerous operatives—and her former handlers want her dead before she remembers too much.

Director Renny Harlin shoots this like a 90s action fever dream—massive explosions, brutal fight choreography, and Davis doing her own stunts while transforming from mousy teacher to platinum blonde killing machine. The script crackles with Black's signature wit, especially the chemistry between Davis and Jackson, who banter through car chases and shootouts like they're having the time of their lives. The villain (Craig Bierko) is deliciously over-the-top, and the conspiracy plot goes wonderfully bonkers.

Davis proves action heroes don't need to be male—she's fierce, funny, and utterly convincing whether she's ice skating with her kid or hanging from a helicopter. This is pure '90s action bliss that somehow got overlooked but deserves rediscovery.

Shane Black's most underrated script meets Renny Harlin's most fun direction.
