Robots at Revival House Perth

Gear up for Blue Sky Studios' imaginative 2005 animated adventure—a visually inventive world where every character is made of metal, every background gleams with mechanical detail, and the message about following your dreams comes wrapped in genuinely creative production design.

Ewan McGregor voices Rodney Copperbottom, a small-town robot inventor who travels to Robot City to meet his idol, the legendary Bigweld (Mel Brooks). But when Rodney arrives, he discovers Bigweld has disappeared and the company's now run by the ruthless Ratchet (Greg Kinnear), who wants to discontinue spare parts and force obsolete robots into the scrap heap. With help from a ragtag group of outmoded robots led by Fender (Robin Williams in peak comedic form), Rodney must save Robot City's underprivileged and restore Bigweld's vision.

What makes Robots special is its commitment to world-building—every frame is packed with mechanical details, sight gags, and clever design flourishes that reward repeat viewing. The animation still impresses with its metallic surfaces and kinetic energy, especially in the film's standout sequence: a wild transportation system called the crosstown express that plays like a Rube Goldberg machine on steroids.

The voice cast brings genuine charm—Williams improvises with manic energy, Halle Berry adds warmth as Cappy, and the supporting ensemble (including Drew Carey, Jim Broadbent, and Jennifer Coolidge) creates memorable personalities. John Powell's score adds orchestral grandeur to the clockwork city.

Pure family entertainment with more craft than most animated films bother with.

Present in authentic 35mm film for the true cinematic experience!
