When marketing executives Charlie Hinton (Eddie Murphy) and Phil (Jeff Garlin) lose their jobs, they find themselves as stay-at-home dads struggling to bond with their own young children while the family budget shrinks. Unable to afford the pricey daycare their kids previously attended, Charlie hits on an unlikely business idea: opening his own daycare centre with Phil, offering an alternative to the strict, expensive facility run by the imperious Miss Harridan (Anjelica Huston). As Charlie and Phil learn the chaotic realities of childcare on the fly, their unconventional, kid-friendly approach proves surprisingly successful, drawing families away from Miss Harridan's rigid establishment and setting up a rivalry between competing philosophies of raising and educating young children.

Director Steve Carr delivers an amiable family comedy built around Eddie Murphy's likeable, if more restrained, comic energy, trading his typically edgier material for broad, kid-friendly humour. The film leans on the inherent chaos of managing a house full of toddlers for much of its comedy, finding warmth in Charlie's genuine, if bumbling, efforts to connect with children—including his own son—after years of prioritising his career. Anjelica Huston brings comic menace to the film's antagonist, while the ensemble of young performers adds authentic chaos to the daycare setting. Though unashamedly formulaic, the film's gentle message about presence, patience, and reconnecting with family resonated with audiences looking for accessible, good-natured entertainment.
