JFK at The Revival House Perth

In 1966, New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison (Kevin Costner) begins investigating the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, convinced that Lee Harvey Oswald did not act alone. What starts as curiosity about inconsistencies in the Warren Commission Report evolves into an obsessive crusade that consumes Garrison's life and threatens his family. Through interviews with mysterious figures including the flamboyant Clay Shaw (Tommy Lee Jones), paranoid David Ferrie (Joe Pesci), and the enigmatic Mr. X (Donald Sutherland), Garrison uncovers a web of connections between anti-Castro Cubans, CIA operatives, mobsters, and military-industrial complex figures. As his investigation deepens, Garrison faces institutional resistance, witness intimidation, and personal attacks designed to discredit him. Building his case toward a courtroom confrontation, Garrison presents a shocking alternative theory: Kennedy was killed by a conspiracy within America's own power structure.

Director Oliver Stone's 1991 epic is a virtuoso piece of filmmaking that uses every cinematic technique available to create a paranoid thriller about American power and the death of idealism. The three-hour-plus film moves at breakneck pace through multiple timelines, film stocks, and perspectives—documentary footage, recreations, flashbacks, and testimonies blend into a kaleidoscopic investigation. Kevin Costner grounds the conspiracy theories with earnest conviction, while the supporting cast delivers memorable turns. Robert Richardson's cinematography and Joe Hutshing and Pietro Scalia's rapid-fire editing create visual urgency. John Williams' mournful score captures both loss and determination. Stone doesn't claim definitive answers but raises provocative questions about official narratives and institutional power. Whether you accept its theories or not, the film remains a compelling examination of how a nation processes trauma.
