They Call Me Trinity (PG) PRESENTED IN 35MM FILM
They Call Me Trinity at The Revival House Perth
A lazy, good-natured drifter known only as Trinity (Terence Hill) rides into a small Mormon settlement to visit his brother Bambino (Bud Spencer), only to discover Bambino has been impersonating the local sheriff while the real lawman is away. The brothers couldn't be more different—Trinity is a lightning-fast gunslinger who'd rather sleep than fight, while Bambino is a hulking strongman with a short temper and dreams of pulling off one big score. When a corrupt land baron and his gang of outlaws threaten to drive the peaceful Mormon farmers from their land, Trinity and Bambino find themselves reluctantly drawn into defending the settlement. What follows is a series of brawls, shootouts, and comic misunderstandings as the brothers teach the pacifist farmers to fight back while trying to resist doing the right thing—a task that becomes increasingly difficult as Trinity develops feelings for one of the Mormon daughters.
Director Enzo Barboni (credited as E.B. Clucher) transformed the spaghetti western with this 1970 comedy that replaced Sergio Leone's operatic violence with slapstick humor and buddy comedy dynamics. Terence Hill and Bud Spencer's chemistry is the film's greatest asset—Hill's blue-eyed, easygoing charm playing perfectly against Spencer's gruff, bear-like physicality. The film's fight sequences are choreographed like cartoon violence, with exaggerated sound effects and impossible physics that never compromise the entertainment value. Franco Micalizzi's memorable score, mixing traditional western themes with playful melodies, became as iconic as the film itself. The massive international success of They Call Me Trinity spawned a sequel, countless imitators, and established Hill and Spencer as one of cinema's great comic duos. This is the western as pure, anarchic fun—a genre-defying romp that's lost none of its charm.
