Spy Kids at Revival House Perth

Get ready for Robert Rodriguez's wildly imaginative 2001 family adventure that proved kids' movies could be smart, stylish, and genuinely cool. This isn't dumbed-down entertainment—it's a love letter to spy movies, family bonds, and the power of gadgets, all wrapped in Rodriguez's signature visual flair.

Carmen and Juni Cortez think their parents are boring—until they discover Mom and Dad are actually retired international superspies. When the world's greatest agents start disappearing, including their parents, the kids must become spies themselves to rescue them from the clutches of children's TV host-turned-villain Fegan Floop (Alan Cumming in wonderfully weird form) and his tech genius partner Minion (Tony Shalhoub).

Rodriguez fills every frame with creative energy—thumb-thumb henchmen, jetpack escapes, a castle filled with mechanical terrors, and gadgets that would make Q jealous. The film moves at breakneck speed but never forgets its heart: a story about kids discovering their parents are heroes and parents learning their kids are capable of anything.

Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino bring genuine warmth as the spy parents, while young Alexa PenaVega and Daryl Sabara anchor the film with charisma that launched their careers. Danny Trejo shows up as Uncle Machete in what would eventually become its own franchise.

Shot for $35 million (pennies by spy movie standards), Rodriguez proves imagination trumps budget every time. This is pure fun that respects its young audience's intelligence.
