Out of the Perth music scene comes a band unlike any other, Australian Critters, the self-described champions of family-friendly punk rock. Their debut single Alfriendo, out 12 September, is a riotous blend of humour, heart and high-energy hooks, marking the beginning of what promises to be a colourful new chapter in local music.

Featuring a lineup of well-loved Perth musicians: Jane Azzopardi (Childsaint/Calmly) on guitar, Germaine Jones (Grunge Barbie) on drums, Declan Carrington (Rental Knives) on bass, and the irrepressible Sarah McSweeney on vocals, Australian Critters are equal parts chaos and charm. Their music is tongue-in-cheek but always catchy, channelling the joy of friendship into punk anthems the whole family can shout along to.

With Alfriendo, Australian Critters also announce their signing to Blue Grey Pink Management, joining the award-winning label’s diverse roster of boundary-pushing WA artists. Looking ahead, the band already has more summer-ready singles on the horizon, including Zooper Dooper and Surfing Echidna.

Audiences are quickly taking notice. As one early listener put it:

“It’s like the Wiggles mixed with Amyl and The Sniffers. It’s fun for the whole family.”

Another added:

“I laughed, I cried, I sang about spaghetti and felt feelings I have never felt before.”

You can catch the band in full swing at the Alfriendo single launch on Saturday, 27 September at The Bird, William Street, Northbridge, joined by special guests Didion’s Bible and Moya Moya.
