SUGAR LOAF -
Sugar Loaf is a new Australian duo devoted to the music of Brazil. Maximillian Rudd (seven-string guitar) and Asha Henfry (flute) are two of Australia’s most talented instrumentalists in the genre. The pair are united by a shared love of Brazilian choro - an instrumental style originating in nineteenth century Rio de Janeiro.
Sugar Loaf brings to life the textures and moods of Brazil’s musical golden age. Their intimate flute and guitar arrangements reflect both exuberant mastery and lyrical nuance. Having studied at prestigious Australian institutions, travelled extensively through Brazil, and learned directly from local masters, Maximillian and Asha offer an authentic interpretation of this rich tradition.
Their debut album, ‘Nulla-Boa’, is a raw and vivid display of their virtuosity, brimming with rhythmic fire, melodic warmth, and a heartfelt connection to the music’s roots. Wherever they perform, Sugar Loaf captivates audiences with their dynamic interplay and profound respect for the legacy of Brazilian music.
