Dion Fernandes - 7pm

Dion Fernandes is a bass student at the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts, known for his inventive approach to blending jazz fusion, R&B, funk, and gospel music. Over the course of his studies, Dion has immersed himself in the rich complexities of jazz fusion, drawing on its intricate rhythms and harmonies to develop his own sound on the bass. His exploration of R&B and funk has further expanded his musical vocabulary, allowing him to seamlessly integrate groove and melody with a contemporary twist.

Influenced by an array of prominent bassists including Joe Dart, James Jamerson, Matt Ramsey, Tal Wilkenfeld, and Gary Willis, Dion has skilfully absorbed elements from each artist, reinterpreting their styles to forge his own distinctive voice. As he prepares to showcase his talent in this recital, Dion is excited to share a performance that reflects his dedication and the diverse influences that have shaped his musical identity.

Cameron O'Loughlin - 8:05pm

Cameron is a Perth based musician, composer, producer and sound engineer, who studied at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Kate Fairlie - 9:10pm

Kate Fairlie is a contemporary pianist and singer/songwriter. Coming to the end of her time at WAAPA, Kate has developed a voice on the piano that is as gentle as it is bold, weaving together melodies with her own unique touch. In her end of year recital, Kate invites her audience on a musical journey, performing a blend of original compositions and carefully chosen covers from inspirations such as Nate Smith, Gogo Penguin and Shaun Martin.

These artists, along with other pivotal influences such as Radiohead, Norah Jones and Yebba - flow through her playing, offering moments of homage and creative exploration. This recital marks a culmination of Kate’s artistic journey, as not only a piano player but a singer and songwriter. With the support of an incredible band, join her in the celebration of her growth and an expression of everything she’s learned and discovered as a musician.
