"Basie Straight Ahead" is an iconic album from 1968, showcasing Count Basie and his orchestra. This album marks the first collaboration between Basie and his long-time orchestrator, Sammy Nestico, who composed, arranged, and conducted all the songs on the record.
Metro Big Band, long-time fans of Basie’s music, are thrilled to present the entire album from start to finish. Lead by musical director Dr. Erin Royer and with the groups collective passion for authenticity, Metro has meticulously studied and embodied every note, ensuring a performance that truly honours the original.
In Set 2, the powerhouse band will be joined by local crooner Rob Pring for "Beyond Basie," featuring hits from many of the crooners who collaborated with Basie over his illustrious career. This is a performance not to be missed.
